Studio Cheeks (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Walking into Cheeks, you are greeted by a fellow at a large work area in the center of the room. They ask for a moment and invite you to make yourself comfortable at a small table with complimentary teas and electric kettle. You are in the midst of a large design project. You are having some issues with your digital tools, and also feel that some friendly critique will push you in the right direction. Over the last year you have seen great work coming out of this space, animations, graphic novels, public events, and even some classes geared towards youth and adults alike. The fellows that regularly utilize this space seem to care for and take pride in it, yet you can tell they do not treat it as owners, but stewards. After a few minutes, the fellow you booked with comes in and invites you to their desk. You discuss your concerns in length, and the fellow gives you so much to work with! They offer you time to work in the space before you leave, so you can gain comfort with the new information and ask for more help if needed. You feel cared for, and as if you are just as much a part of Cheeks as those who run it. As you leave, you ponder what you will do with this wonderful feeling of community at your disposal…and how it will push you and others, and the future of art making in Kansas City….
